Add ByteGate to Your Home Screen

Install gate.humanbyte.ch as a home-screen app on iPhone, iPad, and Android before using the dashboard in the field.

The dashboard is often used away from a desk: checking a location while standing at the door, copying a device secret near the Raspberry Pi, or reviewing a Sentinel alert before calling someone on site. Add ByteGate to your phone or tablet first, so it opens like a normal app, stays out of the browser tab stack, and gives you more usable screen space.

Do this on the device you will actually carry during installation or support.

Add it from the browser menu

Use the tab for your device. Text steps are the source of truth — UI labels change slightly by OS version.

  1. Open gate.humanbyte.ch in Safari (not an in-app browser).
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Keep the name ByteGate, leave Open as Web App on if you see it, then tap Add.

What you tap

  1. Share

    Safari share sheet

  2. Add to Home Screen

Scroll the share list if needed

  3. Add

    Keep the name ByteGate

Official reference: Add a website icon to your Home Screen (Apple).

Optional video walkthrough

If menus look different on your OS version, watch a short walkthrough, then come back to the steps above for ByteGate-specific names. Prefer the numbered steps when you only need a quick checklist.

iPhone / iPad

Third-party how-to for Safari → Add to Home Screen. Use our steps above for ByteGate naming. Open on YouTube

Android

Third-party how-to for Chrome → Add to Home screen / Install. Prefer Install app when both options appear. Open on YouTube

Launch from the new icon and sign in

Close the browser tab and open ByteGate from your home screen. It should open full-screen, without the normal browser address bar. Sign in there, then verify you are in the organization you expect to work with.

On iPhone and iPad, the installed app may ask you to sign in again even if you were already signed in from Safari. That is normal; complete the sign-in from the home-screen app and continue from there.

When to use the installed app

  • During setup: open Register with Cloud from the installed app while copying the Location ID and Device Secret.
  • During handover: open Locations from the home-screen icon and confirm the first heartbeat before leaving the site.
  • During operations: check logs, device health, and Sentinel alerts without hunting for the right browser tab.

Field tip

If the app opens but live data does not load, check the network connection first. ByteGate can keep the installed app shell available, but dashboards, commands, access logs, and Sentinel data still need a live connection to the Cloud Platform.

If the option is missing

On iPhone and iPad, Add to Home Screen is available from Safari. If you opened the site from another in-app browser, copy the address and open it in Safari. If you still do not see the action, open the Share sheet, scroll to the bottom, tap Edit Actions, and enable Add to Home Screen.

On Android, the wording depends on the browser and device. Look for Install app, Add to Home screen, or an install icon in the address bar. If you only see Create shortcut, it can still put ByteGate on the home screen, but the installed experience may behave more like a browser shortcut.
